Product Overview and Characteristics
This product has an extremely wide range of applications and is a principal product among methanol downstream products, with global annual production of approximately 25 million tons. In the synthetic resin industry, formaldehyde is a core raw material for the production of phenolic resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, melamine-formaldehyde resins, and polyoxymethylene resins. In the fine chemicals sector, it is used to synthesize important products such as pharmaceutical intermediates, pentaerythritol, urotropine, and MDI, and is also a primary raw material for the pesticide glyphosate. In the wood industry, formaldehyde serves as a core component of adhesives for wood-based panels, used in the production of plywood and medium-density fiberboard, where it enhances bonding strength and moisture resistance. In addition, formaldehyde can also be used in textile auxiliaries (fixing agents, anti-wrinkle finishing agents), rubber auxiliaries, leather tanning, papermaking, and disinfection and preservation, among other fields.
Core raw material for synthetic resins
It is a core raw material for the production of phenolic resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, melamine-formaldehyde resins, and polyoxymethylene resins, holding an irreplaceable position in the plastics and composite materials industry.
Fine chemical intermediates
Used to synthesize important products such as pharmaceutical intermediates, pentaerythritol, urotropine, and MDI, and is also a primary raw material for the pesticide glyphosate, widely applied in the fine chemicals field.
Adhesives for the wood industry
As a core component of adhesives for wood-based panels, it is used in the production of plywood and medium-density fiberboard to enhance bonding strength and moisture resistance, making it a key raw material in the wood processing industry.
Textile and leather auxiliaries
In the textile industry, it is used as a fixing agent, anti-wrinkle finishing agent, and other textile auxiliaries, and is also used in leather tanning and papermaking processes to improve material performance.
Disinfection and preservation
It has disinfecting and preservative effects and can be used for environmental disinfection and specimen preservation. Commercially available products are typically aqueous solutions of 35% to 40% (formalin).
